A Dreamy Backyard Maternity & Motherhood Session in Greensboro, NC

One last slow morning together, barefoot in the garden, capturing what it feels like to hold onto this fleeting season before everything changes.

This intimate backyard maternity and motherhood session in Greensboro, NC took place in the family’s flower-filled garden. From the way MK lovingly held her daughter to the dreamy, backlit, sun-drenched images we created, everything about this morning felt sacred and beautiful.

I arrived early—just as the sun was rising over MK’s backyard—the perfect backdrop for a quiet Saturday at home together. What unfolded was slow, tender, and honest: a morning spent simply being together before life shifts with the arrival of a new baby.

Honoring the Transition from One Child to Two

There’s a unique sweetness in this in-between season of motherhood. Our time together was filled with simple moments—a deck-side tea, reading books, picking flowers in the backyard, and pretend play in the playhouse. These weren’t just “maternity photos”; they were a celebration of transition, of deepening bonds, of family becoming something new. See more maternity and motherhood sessions in my portfolio.

Her daughter wandered barefoot through the garden, stopping to pick flowers as gifts for the baby she already loves. She served her mom breakfast from her play kitchen at the picnic table. These moments—unposed, unhurried, and deeply real—are what make storytelling photography so meaningful.

This session wasn’t about performing for the camera; it was about preserving the natural rhythms of a morning that will soon look and feel different.

Why Knowing the Light in Your Home Matters

Before the session, MK sent me a short video of her backyard with sunlight streaming through the trees. In Greensboro, with so much tree coverage, understanding your home’s light is key. We planned for early morning, knowing that the sun would peek through at just the right angle—and it did not disappoint.

These soft, backlit images enhanced the dreamy feel of our morning and highlighted the love and connection between MK and her daughter.

Light is one of the biggest factors in how and when we schedule your at-home or backyard session. Before your session, I’ll always ask you to notice where and when the light hits your favorite spaces, so we can create something truly magical together.

In Her Words

After viewing her gallery, MK shared this with me:

“I really can’t even begin to express how moved I am by the photos of our session. I actually had a physical sensation of peace, joy, gratitude wash over me. You captured us so authentically and I feel the love we share, depicted in the moments you documented. I am beyond myself with gratitude for you sharing your gifting with us.”

Want to Document Your Transition into Motherhood?

If you’re longing to capture the quiet, real beauty of this season—whether it’s your first baby or your third—I would be honored to hold space for your story. These sessions are slow, sacred, and focused on emotion over perfection. Here’s what it’s like to work with me.

Your home, your backyard, your people—that’s where the real beauty lives.
