The Harrison Family | In-Home Maternity Session in Greensboro, NC
Documenting the sacred moments and evening rhythms of being together as a family of five in a home that holds so much story.
Before welcoming their fourth baby, I had the privilege of photographing the Harrison family in the home that had carried so much of their story. This was the space where they raised their three little ones, where laughter echoed through the front yard, and where two of their babies — including this sweet new arrival — were born in the family’s bathtub.
There are homes that hold history, and this one was deeply layered with theirs. From homeschooling their kiddos, prayers around the dinner table, swinging in the front yard and running through the sprinkler, every corner seemed to carry a memory, from the ordinary rhythms of daily life to the sacred beginnings of new life.
So much of motherhood and family life happens in ordinary spaces that we don’t often pause to honor. But when you look back years later, it’s these familiar backdrops — the places where little feet ran, where bellies grew, and where laughter carried — that become priceless.
This is why in-home sessions matter. Life moves quickly: babies arrive, families grow, and seasons shift. But photographs give us a way to linger, to step back into the tender in-between moments of “before.”
For the Harrisons, these images preserve the feeling of home in this exact chapter of life — roots deepened, love multiplied, and another little one soon to be welcomed into their story.
When I ran into Klaire after her session, she told me, “These were the photos I didn’t even realize my heart needed.” That’s the heartbeat of why I believe photographs taken in your own home are among the most meaningful you’ll ever have — they tell your story exactly as it is, in the place that holds it all.
